自己紹介/self introduction

時にファンタジーで時にミステリーで時にハードボイルドに。
一つの世界に縛られないドラマチックな世界それがflexible-artだ。
Fantasy at times, mysterious in another time, then hardboiled.
The world is changing dramatically like stage settings. This is “flexible-art.”

経歴/carrier・

1977年生まれ
2000年　グラフィックデザインをメインにCDジャケットやポスターデザインなどを手掛ける。 2005年以降　表現の場をキャンバスに変え油絵を再開。現在も海外へ向け創作活動を続ける。たまにサックスも吹く。

Born in 1977.
Started graphical design for liner notes and poster design from 2000 with a pen tablet.
Re-started oil-painting since 2005 with paintbrushes.
occasionally plays a saxophone.

“We are the Painting World”

"I had just watched 'We are the World 2010' on TV. 'I have to do something for the world' I thought it was a coincidence."

"We are the "World", a charity movement in 1985, has been progressed as '25 years anniversary DVD'. Then Haiti earthquake happened. Many artists gathered for the reconstruction for Haiti and sang the song to the world. "The 2010" has been public in February 12, and viewers exceeds 30,000,000 times in youtube. Celine Dion is good. Wyclef Jean's play make us recall the sad news, his pal Jimmy O was discovered under the debris of the disaster city. Artist Yuske Hirata was touched by the part of will.i.am. Surely the rap part was good.

Moved, he thought he should respond to a request from an Africa country. He wish his painting gives power to African people. Then his art work "Mary" went over to Africa. But the continent was too vast, some misfortunes were piled up, she lost her way in the continent. Now her eyes may be full with tears.

If the missing Mary returns home peacefully, he asks me to buy it. Agreed.

【To New York, Germany, and Switzerland】

His going into foreign exhibitions started from BONJOUR CHOC! in art marche KANDA. The juried exhibition such as artKudos (finalist), Celeste and other competitions became a beginning to a leap to the world. His leap this year are followings;

"Don't you think great works? They are not 'just for fun artists' in Japan" he said with Masters 2010 in his hands, which his painting "Suture of Love"is printed . Surely the level of the works is excellent. With this painting and the competitions as starter, he got requests to exhibit his paintings. A gallery in New York city held a exhibition for Japanese artists. His Mary headed to the East Coast alone. How was it?

"Mary got suck. She was so pity"

He said that a bunch of Japanese artists, most are not so excellent, just moved to New York. About 80% of the works are mere illustrations, less than paintings. The tears of the　ants in Mary were mine's, Hirata said.

【Zen Gallery】

From Europe a Zen artist, Mr. Rin Terada in Berlin, Zen Gallery made contact him. Terada creates the soulful art. He was a famous artist internationally. He said watching Hirata's paintings.

"Your painting is pretty good."

He said that 'your painting has a conviction, you don't have to exhibit in Japan, come to Germany'. Hirata's way of art, 'No hierarchy, No art school ivory', was convinced him. Terada invited him to the exhibitions in Germany and introduced an art catalogue in Basel,　Switzerland. The catalogue is the one of the events in Art Basel 2010, where actor Brad　Pitt visited last year.

【T、G、A・・・】

Terada visited Japan recently for the purpose of a attending an event at Tokyo Big Sight, an exhibition hall. His aim was to invite Japanese artists to overseas. He put a table at the booth and piled up postcards. It was like an installation but an invitation with his massage, 'Come to Germany, Escape from the Bondage of Japan'. Hirata was asked to hand the postcards in the hall. He gave handouts but was disappointed with dull atmosphere.

"How about the exhibition?"
"It was a school festival."Hirata replied.

In the event there was a stage for music talents. Why singers sing songs for the art event? The audience really loves art?

Terada advised them composition of a painting to the artists during the event. It was honorable and very precise advice. But－

"Why do they change by others advice? Doesn't it matter for them?"Hirata has doubts.

One artist said, "I tried T and G and A but nothing happened, nothing changed."

T, G and A are Japanese art businesses. One artist told Terada. He graduated an art school and has been painting while doing 'other job for bread' as a worker but can not open the door to creative.He poured out his mind. Every would-be artists looks alike.

Hirata says that it is doubt that artists themselves have own their spirits. The Japanese artists problem is not the level of paintings, but it is the matter of the spirits, how they express their soul.

【We are the Painting World】

"12 months made your environment totally change, didn't it?" I asked.
"The surrounding has been changed actually but my motivation to creation don't change" Hirata replied. "No, something may be changed. It's people to buy my paintings. If I appear in "Front Runner"(a popular Japanese TV program introducing active individuals) Japanese people may buy my paintings. But outside Japan, people buy painting itself, rather than artists' personality. I wish mines are bought by somebody who loves paintings".

His wish was packed in his self-portrait. He says it is a big name card.

"My daughter plays house with fantasy. She plays roll of mom or her daughter. I want to be in fantasy and play, too. "

Painting is like graffiti on the road. The self-portrait spreads dolls, tits, and secrets. His fragmentary portraits are hanging in the sky. He wants to paint un-changeable himself floating over the sky looking down the earth.

Someday he wants to hold "We are the PAINTING World"and direct artists in the world. This Year could be the first step.

“We are the Painting World”

「ちょうどね、“We are the World 2010年版”を観てたんでね、オレも何かしなくちゃと想ったのがまずかった」

1985年の“We are the World”の25周年記念DVDの制作話が進んでいた。そこにハイチ地震が発生。急遽ハイチの復興のためにアーティストが集まり、世界に向かって熱唱した。2月12日にyoutubeで公開された2010年版動画、再生回数は3000万回にも。Celine Dionもよかったし、Wyclef Jeanが歌う姿には、彼の友人のラッパーJimmy Oがハイチの瓦礫の下から遺体で発見された哀しいニュースが思い出された。アーティスト平田優介さんはwill.i.amのパートに感動した。うん、ラップのパートはよかった。

感動した平田さん、ちょうどアフリカ某国からの展示依頼に応えたいと思った。自分の絵がアフリカの人の力になれればいい。作品『メアリ』は海を渡った。だが世界は広く、ある不幸が重なり、メアリは大陸で迷子になってしまった。今ごろその目に涙をいっぱいためているかもしれない。

家出のメアリ、ちゃんと無事に帰還したら、わたし（郷）に買ってくれと言う。快諾。

【NYへ、ドイツへ、スイスへ】

平田優介の快進撃は、2009年のアートマルシェ神田での展示『BONJOUR CHOC!』から始まった。artKudos（Finalist), Celesteなど海外公募展をきっかけに、2010年は海外への飛翔の年になる。ざっと挙げてみよう。

「レベル高いでしょ。日本のお遊びアーティストとはぜんぜんちがう」　彼は『愛情の縫合』が収載されたInternational Contemporary Masters 2010を手にして言う。たしかにレベルが高い。この本や公募展がきっかけで、彼のもとには展示依頼が続々とやってきた。ニューヨークの某Galleryでは、日本のアーティストのグループ展をした。その内のひとつとして展示されるため、メアリはひとり、東海岸に旅立った。どんな展示でしたか？

「メアリがふてくされていた。可哀想だったね」

レベルがそれほどじゃない日本人アーティストが、大挙してニューヨークに移動しただけと彼は語る。絵画というよりイラストレベルが8割、メアリが泣くわけさ。蟻の涙は実はボク自身の涙だった、と平田さん。

【Zen Galleryとの出会い】

欧州での出会いは、ベルリン在住の“Zen”アーティスト寺田琳氏だ（Zen　Gallery）。魂の発露ともいうべき作品を生み出す国際的に著名なアーティスト。彼は平田さんの絵を観てこういう。

「お前の絵はなかなかいいぞ」

“お前の絵は主張がある、日本で展示なんかしなくていい、ドイツでやらないか”と。絵に学歴も学閥も関係ないと主張する彼の想いが、平田さんの求道の姿に重なりあったのだ。それが2010年4月からの3つの展示に広がり、スイスバーゼルの絵画カタログにつながった（スイスのセレブが訪れるArt Baselの展示の一環イベント。昨年はあのブラピもやってきた）。

【T、G、A・・・】

寺田氏は先頃日本にやってきた。日本人アーティストを海外に引っ張るために、2010年3月に東京ビックサイトで開催された展示会への出展。テーブルを一台置いて、その上に“ハガキ”を積んだ。インスタレーションかと思われたが、実は「こんなところでやってないで、ドイツに来い」という招待状だった。ビッグサイトまで手伝いに行った平田さん、寺田氏に「ハガキを配ってこい」といわれて通路に立ち、他のブースへも。しかし余りのテンションの低さにがっかりした。

「展示会、どうでした？」わたしは訊いてみた。
「まるで学園会のようなノリだったね」と平田さん。

そのイベント、歌のステージもある。集客には必要なのだろうが、アートイベントに歌が必要なのか？ほんとうにアート好きがやってくる人が来ているのか？

寺田さんは、「構図はこうしたほうがいいよね」とイベントを手伝うアーティストにアドバイスもしてくれた。名誉だし的確なアドバイスでもある。ありがたい。だがー

「誰かに言われて変えてしまうのか？それでいいのか？」と平田さんは疑問ももつ。

あるアーティストがこう言う。「TもGもAやったけど、何にも変わらない」

TもGもAも、アートに関する日本のビジネスだ。美術学校出たが、仕方なく仕事しながら絵は描き続けているが、道が開けない。そんな気持ちを吐露した。みんな気持ちは同じのようだ。

平田さんは「アーティスト自身も“自分を持っているか”疑問」と語る。日本のアーティストの問題は絵のレベルじゃない。自分をどうしたいか、スピリットの問題なのではないか。

【We are the Painting World】

「この1年で環境がガラリと変わりましたね平田さん？」訊いてみた。
「まわりは変わったけれど、創作のモチベーションには変化がない」という平田さん。「いや変わったことがある。それは“売る相手”かな。ボクが仮にフロントランナーにでも出れば、日本の人は買うかもしれない。でも海外ではどんな人が描いているかよりも、絵自体を買う。絵がわかる人、絵が好きな人に買ってもらいたいな」

そんな想いも込めて、“どでかい名刺”を創った。自画像だ。

「娘は空想しておままごとする。おかあさんになったり、子どもの役をしたり。自分も、ひとりで空想して遊んでいたいんだ」

絵を描くのは道に落書きするようなものだ。ドールもおっぱいも秘め事もある自画像。ちぎれちぎれなりながら浮きあがる姿。地球を見下ろす空の上まで浮いてゆき、変わらない自分を描いてゆきたい。

いつか『We are the World 絵画版』を企画し、世界の絵描きを指揮したい。2010年はその第一歩になる。
